Language and identity: not a Slavic country
Hungarian belongs to the Finno-Ugric language family, unrelated to Russian, Polish, or Ukrainian, and Hungarians are not ethnically Slavic. Geographically and culturally, though, Hungary borders Slovakia, Romania, and Ukraine, and shares much of the region's dating etiquette - including reserved first impressions that warm quickly once trust is established. English is common among younger, educated Hungarians in Budapest, less so outside the capital.
